What Are the Types of Oven We Repair?

conventional gas oven

Conventional Gas Ovens

Since the 1950s, conventional ovens have been a feature in contemporary kitchens. They function by transferring heat from a steady, fixed source—typically a burner element or gas flame inside the oven housing—from the bottom up. The principle of baking is the same whether using gas or electricity: heat rises and cooks food from below.
conventional electric ovens

Conventional Electric Ovens

These traditional ovens emit heat into the oven from a stationary heat source. The oven’s heat source is often at the bottom, and the oven is heated by allowing the heat to ascend from there. The biggest issue with conventional ovens is that they frequently have hot air pockets, which results in food that cooks unevenly and sometimes even burns. Because hot air rises, you can notice that the top of your food in the oven burns while the bottom doesn’t fully cook.
microwave oven

Microwave Ovens

A microwave oven, or more widely known as a microwave, is an electric oven that uses electromagnetic radiation with a microwave frequency range to cook and heat food. As a result, the food is heated via a process known as dielectric heating, which causes the polar molecules there to rotate and produce heat energy. Because excitation is rather homogenous in the exterior 25–38 mm (1–1.5 inches) of a homogeneous, high water content food item, microwave ovens heat food fast and effectively.
convection oven

Convection Oven

The convection oven, sometimes referred to as a thermal oven, is strong enough to cook food from all sides. It produces a more uniform roasting or baking outcome. A built-in electric fan is necessary for convection ovens to disperse heat. The outcome of baking will be inconsistent if the electrical system malfunctions or the fan is too tiny.
toaster oven

Toaster Oven

The heating element, wire rack, removable baking sheet, and manual front door of a toaster oven are its main features (usually ceramic, Nichrome, or quartz). This multipurpose device is one of the earliest types of ovens and has some limited baking and broiling features in addition to conventional toasting. Usually, it is used to reheat food and toast bread.

The Top 7 Common Oven Problems

The Gas Burner Fails to Light

If the burners won’t ignite, it’s either because natural gas hasn’t been provided to them for some reason or because safety precautions prevent them from doing so. The thermocouple or flame sensor may be at fault if the igniting process fails.

The Range Burner is Not Heating

Your burner may need to be repaired if the flame igniter on your range is not functioning properly. This may require replacing the spark ignition switch or maybe the complete igniter assembly. The voltage from the spark ignition switch should pass through the spark module and result in a spark when the burner is turned on. If it doesn’t, there might be a problem with the switch, affecting this portion of your range.

The Oven is Not Heating

The issue where the microwave light turns on and hums but no heat is produced is more likely to arise as a microwave gets older. The door switch is the first place to check if your microwave isn’t heating. Just in case the cycle isn’t starting because the door isn’t latching. Additionally, you can examine the voltage diode. But you might as well buy a new microwave if you find out it’s the magnetron.

The Oven Heat is Insufficient

A door switch has to be the first thing you look into if your microwave doesn’t even begin to heat up. Microwave ovens are made so that the microwave control panel will prohibit you from turning it on if the door switch is not engaged. It’s for your own security.

The Oven Door Won’t Close

It’s typical for the door to stop hanging or shutting properly over time on older refrigerators. This frequently occurs as a result of the hinges or springs losing their factory-tightened seal. Heat and odors may escape the microwave when the door isn’t properly closed, and additional problems may occur. A door that won’t latch on a microwave may be challenging to open or close, and the microwave may have trouble recognizing the door as fully closed.

The Oven Won’t Self-Clean

The oven door might not lock if the door switch is broken. The circuit that causes the oven door to lock during the self-cleaning cycle frequently includes the door switch. The self-cleaning cycle won’t begin if the oven door cannot lock. Use a multimeter to check the door switch for continuity to see if it needs to be repaired. Replace the door switch if it doesn’t have continuity.

A Guide to Essential Oven Parts

Broil Element

The components close to the oven section’s roof are known as the broil elements. They are used for broiling, therefore that’s how they acquired their name! They can occasionally be used to hasten the oven’s preheat.

Oven Rack

When cooking, pans are frequently placed on an oven rack to keep the food in the middle of the oven. An oven rack is a metal rack that fits inside an oven. Most oven racks slide in and out quite simply, making it possible to remove them to cook larger meals within the oven.

Bake Element

The lower element in the oven area is the bake element. It is the oven’s workhorse and typically burns out before the broil element does.

Convection Fan

This is essential for a convection oven since it acts as both a fan and a heating element. The air in the cooking chamber is moved around by a little fan. The stationary thermal boundary layer of colder air that naturally forms around the food is thinned as a result of the fan.

Convection Baffle

Typically, a baffle and one or more axial fans are part of the convection system. Through apertures on the back wall of the oven cavity, the fan or fans force air through the space. The fan is hidden by the baffle, which also directs airflow to certain sections of the oven cavity.

Hidden Bake Tray

The flat, rectangular metal pan used in an oven is known as a sheet pan, baking tray, or baking sheet. It is frequently used to bake flat foods including cookies, sheet cakes, Swiss rolls, bread rolls, and pastries.

My home microwave (Turbo Incanto) broke down and initially i was sceptical to call for a home repair service! Thankfully, I found a reliable microwave repair service in Yeobuild. Their technician, Mr Syafiq came down at the appointed day/time and gave sound advice on the job scope after checking my microwave (heating system failed). Initial $60 fee was waived and all-inclusive $190 fee paid for repairs, transport, delivery, installation, spare parts, etc. No hidden charges and fees are transparent as quoted by Mr Syafiq. Job completed in 3 days with Invoice (cash payment) and Job Report emailed to me promptly. Thank you for the excellent service. Highly Recommended.

I've used yeobuild three times - for my wine fridge, washing machine and oven. All three times, the items were repaired professionally and in a timely manner. No idea if it is good value as I didn't compare prices, but I appreciate the prompt appointments, straightforward price quotes and follow ups. Will continue to use them and recommend to friends.

UPDATED post follow up: Service team returned call and fixed an appointment readily for next day as promised. Both fans are in good working condition 🙏🏻 Hope that YeoBuild can be impeccable in all aspects going forward, not solely zoomed in just for new accounts. Will return for other repairs and services if need to! Initial appointment was set up fast but received many calls for new slot allocation to fix on 1. Handyman is good and professional, mentioned that for follow up of capacitor replacement, the team will be in touch soon once we make payment for the new units. The ones he has did not fit ours hence the follow up appointment is required. Right after the first trip, email summary and invoice came for follow up. But no one reached out to give status nor make appointment for the expected service for replacement. Its been 2-3 weeks. I called once and they mentioned will check exact and lmk, still no updates so far.
